It also refused to boot or do anything but display a single flashing hyphen.
When we took the hard drive out and had a look at it, the reader head had rammed itself into the magnetic plate, torn off and left the reader arm gleefully skipping across the plate, whistling as it went. Anyhoo, to make a long story short, NEVER BUY SEAGATE HARDWARE, IT SUCKS BAD.

Comment from djnapkin

sux2bu

Comment from aph

I have had a few HDDs dying. Unfortunately, a laptop HDD is not as conveniently replaced or salvaged as PC ones :( Now I have no respect for HDDs whatsoever, i keep mine on the floor connected by an IDE controller. Sometimes, when I'm at band camp, my bird, she turns it on and pecks it. I think shes after porn.

Comment from silpheed

$300 and a wasted weekend later, I have a computer again. I then had to wait 2 weeks for Intel to process the warranty.

Worst school holidays ever :(

I wish your computer a speedy recovery!
